China’s rich tourism resources provide favorable conditions for the development of tourism.Tourism texts carry cultural information and spread tourism information,so tourism translation plays an important role of promoting Chinese culture and attracting foreign tourists.This translation report selects the book Touring Shanxi from the Past to the Present as the source text.The author translated three chapters related to the Ancient City of Pingyao under the guidance of the Skopos theory.The translation of this source text has obvious functions and purposes: promoting Chinese culture and transmitting tourism information are to attract foreign tourists to visit the Ancient City of Pingyao.Therefore,the application of the Skopos theory is of great guiding significance.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,the author selects appropriate translation methods and techniques for the translation practice and analyzes cases from three aspects: vocabulary,syntax and discourse.For vocabulary,the author selects four-character words and culturally loaded words as cases.The author chooses different translation methods such as free translation,combination,amplification and transliteration plus a footnote to achieve the communicative purpose of promoting Chinese culture.As for syntax,the author selects sentences with multiple adverbials and sentences with multiple attributives as cases.Translation techniques such as adjusting the Chinese adverbials and attributives order and transforming logical relations are applied to make sentences concise and in line with the language forms of English.For discourse,analyzing cases of reference and conjunction to achieve the cohesion and coherence of the translation and make the whole translation fluent and natural in English.It is accessible for English readers to receive information.And the translation achieves the purpose of providing a high-quality tourism translation to English readers.This report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is task introduction,which introduces the practice background and the source text,and summarizes the content and significance of the report.Chapter two is process description,showing the whole translation process to ensure the translation quality from three stages: pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.Chapter three is theoretical framework,which discusses the Skopos theory and its applicability to the translation practice.Chapter four is case study,adopting appropriate translation methods and techniques to solve the difficulties in translation practice under the guidance of the Skopos theory.Chapter five is practice summary,summarizing the experience,enlightenment and deficiencies from both theoretical and practical aspects.
