Oral history documentary is a kind of documentary which mainly focuses on the oral content of people who have experienced the history, and comprehensively uses film and television technology and audio-visual language,in order to achieve the restoration of the original history as far as possible. It narrates unknown historical details and historical stories from a private narrative perspective, shows a vivid history, and undertakes the responsibility of recording and inheriting history. In terms of narrative structure, oral history documentaries unfold historical narrative in a "step by step" structure, express the theme in a "block" structure, and present the story content in a comprehensive way by a "central series" structure. From the perspective of narrative, oral history documentaries often present the historical context from an omniscient perspective, supplement the historical background, narrate personal experience from a limited perspective, and reappear the vivid history. In terms of narrative language, oral history documentaries strengthen the emotional rendering, deepen the theme and realize the narrative goal by restoring the real picture language, evoking the sound language and highlighting the theme of montage language. My personal work The Past of Laokuang follows the narrative rules of oral history documentaries, which deepens the understanding of narrative theory and improves the narrative skills of documentaries. However, there is still room for improvement in the aspect of story, and the true historical background of oral details can be further supplemented and explored.Compared with the official historical statement, the folk characteristics and values of oral history in documentaries are not complete and sufficient, and can be further deepened.
