Zhong Nanshan delivered an impromptu speech at the opening ceremony of his Alma mater of Guangdong Experimental High School on August 31,2020.Zhong Nanshan mainly explained that China’s system is the most advantageous system in dealing with major public health events based on his 60-year working experience and China’s successful practice in combating COVID-19.In order to make people abroad more aware of the fact, the author translated the speech into English. This report consists of four chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the process of interpreting. The second chapter is the literature review, which introduces the development and research status of interpretive theory at home and abroad and expounds the basic principles of interpretive theory. The third chapter is the case analysis, which analyzes the difficulties encountered at different stages through specific interpreting cases and proposes effective coping methods. The fourth chapter is the conclusion, which evaluates the simulated interpreting practice and reflects on the shortcomings.Through case analysis, this report draws the following conclusions:in order to correctly convey the meaning of the speaker, the interpreter must not only have the ability to express bilingually, but also have a wealth of illocutionary knowledge, encyclopedic knowledge and life experience as supplements. The interpreter should be allowed to abandon some unimportant details and only explain the core meaning of the speaker clearly if time is pressing. Therefore,in order to better improve the efficiency and quality of interpreting, interpreters should not only cultivate their ability to grasp the speaker’s logic, but also focus on improving their ability to extract the core meaning of the speaker in daily learning and practice.
