With the continuous development of China’s cultural industry, the art derivative industry has gradually attracted more and more attention.Compared with the original art,the art derivative has a relatively low price,so it is hailed as "affordable art" by the public. Its appearance made the "Berlin Wall" between high art and popular culture fall down, and it is the expression of the continuous life and popularity of art since Pop Art.Art derivatives are developed from the origin of artworks. In 2016,the transaction volume of Chinese art market has accounted for one third of the total transaction volume of the global art market, and its share in the global art market is still rising. It is estimated that by 2028,the Chinese art market will break the 30 trillion yuan mark. But according to an industry report jointly released by the Ministry of Culture and the China Auction Industry Association,China’s total art trade totaled 178.4 billion yuan as of 2012,Of that, only $18 billion--10%of the market--was in licensed art, reproductions and derivatives,It can be seen that China’s art derivatives still have a huge blue ocean market waiting to be developed. At present, the development of art derivatives in China is not balanced enough, there are some excellent works but far from enough, and the development of art derivatives in most regions remains bogged down. Therefore, this paper is divided into four chapters to explore the development of art derivatives. The first chapter mainly makes an overall analysis of the concept of art derivatives, the reasons for their rise and the development status quo,and comprehensively expounds art derivatives from a macro point of view. The second chapter is the core of this pape.By analyzing the classic cases of the development of art derivatives, such as the Palace Museum’s art derivatives, the British Museum and the cross-border cooperation between Uniqlo and KAWS,this chapter draws on their excellent experience and provides a realistic basis for the development and design of art derivatives in China. On the basis of the second chapter, the third chapter points out that the development level of China’s art derivatives is progressive from object image to artistic conception, and the basic design principles should be followed in the development. At the same time,it provides a theoretical basis for the choice of the carrier in the development of art derivatives. The fourth chapter,as the last part of the paper, the development of art derivatives must be tested in the market, but the order and industrial chain of China’s art derivatives market are relatively chaotic,so the author puts forward some views for the realization of art derivatives in the Chinese market in the last chapter.
