| This translation report is based on the translator’s E-C translation practice of Drugs and Drug Policy in America: A Documentary History assigned by Fujian Police College from June to July in 2017.The translation material,Drugs and Drug Policy in America: A Documentary History,is an informative text that introduces narcotic drug,drug abuse,drug addiction,drug policy and punishment mode of different periods in America.Alexander Fraser Tytler put forward three principles for judging what is a “good translation”--(1).A translation should give a complete transcript of the ideas of the original work;(2).The style and manner of writing in a translation should be of the same character with that of the original;(3).A translation should have all the ease of original composition.From the perspective of Tytler’s Three Principles,the report analyzes the E-C translation of informative documents and comes up with specific translation strategies conformed with the theory on the basis of text features,language styles and so forth with the hope to provide references for the translation of informative text.The translation report consists of the following five chapters.Chapter one is a general introduction to the translation practice,including background of translation practice,significance of the translation report and literature review.Chapter two briefly explains the whole processes of the translation project,including pre-translation,during-translation and modification,which includes assistant tools,text analysis,parallel texts used in the translation,text typology analysis,details of translation process,difficulties during the translation practice and post-translation modification.Chapter three is the theoretical framework which introduces Tytler’s Three Principles and its guidance to informative text.Chapter four is case study,mainly focusing on the application of Tytler’s Three Principles in lexicon,sentence and text levels.Chapter five serves as a conclusion of the translation report,which points out limitations and reflections and summarizes the experience and inspirations in this translation practice. |
