By analyzing and summarizing the concepts and relevant theoretical basis of the flipped classroom,this study aims to clarify the core ideas and characteristics of the flipped classroom teaching mode,to explore and construct a relatively perfect new flipped classroom teaching mode,which is the exploration of the nature and the enrichment of the theoretical content of flipped classroom.The purpose of this paper is to judge whether the flipped classroom is beneficial to English reading teaching in junior middle school in China through theoretical research and practical observation.And it aims to understand the present situation and existing problems of the application of flipped classroom in English reading teaching in junior middle school through observation.Based on the theory of teaching system design,an English flipped classroom is designed to improve the level of English reading skills in junior middle school.The author uses the experimental method to verify whether the flipped classroom is helpful to the improvement of junior middle school students’ English reading skills.Taking the students in Grade 8 of junior middle school as the research subject,this paper mainly studies three questions:(1)What effects does the application of flipped classroom teaching mode exert on junior middle school students’ reading ability?(2)How can flipped classroom teaching mode be applied to English reading teaching in junior middle school effectively?(3)Which type of reading question will be solved by applying flipped classroom teaching mode to the English reading teaching in junior middle school?In this process,the literature method,action research method,questionnaire survey method and classroom observation method are applied.The paper consists of six parts.The first part is introduction;it introduces research background,research significance,research methods and research questions.The second part is literature review;it includes researches on flipped classroom at home and abroad.The third part is theoretical framework.And the fourth part is research design;it explains the research hypotheses,research subjects,research instruments,research procedures and a teaching sample.The fifth part is data collection and discussion,and the last part is conclusion.Through analysis of the data after the experiment,the following conclusions are drawn: First,flipped classroom teaching mode is beneficial to improving students’ reading ability.After the flipped classroom is applied to English reading teaching,students’ reading learning efficiency,learning styles and methods,learning interest,learning attitudes and learning strategies have been greatly changed and improved.By comparing the results of pre-test and post-test in the experimental class and the control class,it is proved that flipped classroom teaching mode can improve students’ English reading performance in English reading class.Second,by making use of a variety of teaching resources,fully arousing students’ learning enthusiasm and improving teachers’ teaching level and students’ autonomous learning ability,the flipped classroom teaching mode can be effectively applied to the teaching of English reading in junior middle school.The meticulous preparations before the class give students confidence in the next class,and various interactive activities ensure the students’ interest in learning.The rich group activities and class evaluation in the classroom enable students to observe their own and others’ performance.Well-designed activities not only stimulate students’ interest in English reading lessons,improve students’ classroom participation,but also stimulate learners’ subjectivity.Third,through the application of the flipped classroom mode,the scores on understanding the general idea of the article and guessing the meaning of words can be improved obviously.The flipped classroom helps to broaden students’ vocabulary,not only including the words that appear in the text,but also more words presented on the Internet and in the video in the process of learning English.In addition,flipped classroom helps to improve students’ reading speed.By watching videos and completing pre-class tasks,students can understand and read the context quickly,which improves the students’ ability to understand the main idea of the article to a great extent.To sum up,the flipped classroom provides a new direction to the English reading teaching,and the idea of the flipped classroom meets the requirements of the new curriculum.In the end,this thesis further puts forward the shortcomings of the research and shows the prospect of the research.
