Research On High School English Reading Teaching From The Perspective Of Deep Learning

With the development of the times,the requirements of the society for the learners’ quality are also changing.In order to meet the challenges of the times,the New English Curriculum Standards in high school has put forward new requirements.Facilitating comprehensively the abilities and core literacy of students has become a necessity.Therefore,English education urgently needs to be reformed,and it is urgent for educators to explore teaching modes suitable for high school students’ English reading learning to improve the teaching effect.Deep learning is a transcendence of surface learning,it is a kind of meaningful construction based on understanding,and it is an important way to cultivate the core literacy of the English subject,therefore,in the context of promoting the cultivation of core literacy of the subject,deep learning research is of great significance.Based on the theoretical foundation of sorting out the relationship between Constructivism and deep learning,this thesis investigates the current situation of high school English reading teaching through the classroom observation and interviews,and the research studies the effect of the application of deep learning teaching strategies through teaching experiments and reading tests,so as to seek for further inspiration.The main research questions are as follows.1.What is current situation of the specific local school in English reading teaching?2.Whether or not the reading teaching based on deep learning can stimulate students’ learning motivation and improve the learning interest?3.Whether or not the reading teaching based on deep learning can improve students’ reading performance and promote the cultivation of core literacy?This thesis took class 1 and class 2 of grade 11 in local senior high school as the main research objects.Class 1 is the experimental class and class 2 is the controlled class.The experiment lasted for nearly four months,the deep learning reading teaching mode was adopted in the experimental class,while traditional reading teaching method was adopted in the controlled class.During this period,the author used the methods of classroom observation,interviews and tests to collect data in the process of teaching experiment,besides,SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze statistics.And the basic exploration process consisted of the following steps.At the beginning of the semester,the two classes were given a reading pretest in order to know whether or not the English level of the students in the two classes is equal.Secondly,the classroom observation was applied,10 students and 4 English teachers were interviewed selectively to get to know the existing problems and related causes in local high school English reading teaching.Thirdly,corresponding teaching strategies were set up and the reading teaching experiment was carried out.At the end of the experiment,the two classes were given the second reading test,and the students were interviewed for the second time.Last,the author analyzed and compared the data collected in the research process,and summarized the research results.The results demonstrated that the application of deep learning in senior high school English reading teaching could not only activate students’ interest and autonomy in learning,but also improve students’ reading performance and promote the cultivation of core literacy.Eventually,some inspirations are drawn from this experiment.On the one hand,teachers should actively apply deep learning ideology to practical teaching based on Constructivism.And at the same time,schools should strengthen relevant training to promote the implement of effective teaching methods;On the other hand,teachers should change the teaching concept based on knowledge transfer,and build a educational idea based on students’ development.In the practical teaching,teachers should give students more opportunities for critical thinking and demonstration,and form the inquiry cooperative teaching mode in depth with students as the main role,so that students can enjoy the fun of learning.This study has theoretically discussed the close relationship between Constructivism and deep learning,and has generally proved in practice that through the joint efforts of students and teachers,deep learning mode is feasible and effective.
