Vocabulary is the cornerstone of English learning and a prerequisite for improving listening,speaking,reading and writing skills.For senior high school students,vocabulary acquisition still troubles most of them.Most teachers have a single vocabulary teaching method,and high school students use rote memorization to memorize words,but the effect is non-ideal and time-wasting.Therefore,it is necessary to do further research on high school vocabulary teaching.In recent years,with the continuous popularization of mobile devices and the continuous development of science and technology,the use of mobile phone software to learn vocabulary as a new learning method has quickly entered our lives and opened up a new English learning mode.Bai Cizhan is an application created for word problems,which has attracted the interest of a large number of English learners.Therefore,this study hopes to use Bai Cizhan App in vocabulary teaching to help students acquire and consolidate the vocabulary,so as to improve the effectiveness of vocabulary teaching.This research aims to answer the following research questions:Question 1: What is the effect of the application of “Bai Ci Zhan” App on the vocabulary achievement of senior high school students?Question 2: What is the effect of the application of “Bai Ci Zhan” App on the vocabulary learning strategies of senior high school students?Question 3: What are the perceptions of students towards mobile learning in English vocabulary teaching?In order to answer the above problems,this study took two parallel classes in a high school in Tieling city as the research subjects and conducted an 18-week teaching experiment,a total of 90 students participated in the experiment.Among them,class 3(45students)was experimental class which was taught with Bai Cizhan App;class 4(45students)was control class which was taught with traditional vocabulary teaching methods.The experiment started on September 1,2020,and ended on December 22,2020.The main research tools included test,questionnaire and interview.Before the teaching experiment,the students took the pre-test and pre-questionnaire.During the experiment,the students received three months of English teaching.The two classes are taught by the same teacher with the same teaching materials,but the teaching methods of the two classes are different.After the experiment,they also received post-test,post-questionnaire and interview.Then the author used SPSS 19.0 to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on the collected data.The research results show that in the post-test,the score of the experimental class is significantly higher than that of the control class,indicating that the use of Bai Cizhan App is beneficial to improve students’ English vocabulary performance.Through the analysis of the questionnaires on vocabulary learning strategies,it is concluded that the frequency of learning strategies of experimental class students is higher than that of control class.This teaching method is conducive to enhancing students’ awareness of using learning strategies.In addition,the analysis of questionnaire and interview shows that most participants maintain a positive attitude towards Bai Cizhan App,and they also pointed out some shortcomings.In order to improve vocabulary performance and learning strategy ability,teachers should actively learn from the multiple memory modes of Bai Cizhan App to mobilize the enthusiasm for vocabulary learning,and apply the software to their own teaching process.In addition,this research has brought certain enlightenment to high school English vocabulary teaching.The paper finally pointed out the limitations of this research and further suggestions.It is hoped that the research results will provide reference value for future related research.
