| According to the English Curriculum Standard of compulsory education(2011),the students of schools that offer English courses from grade 3 should reach the goal of level 2 at the end of grade 6.The second level goal clearly shows that we should not only strengthen students’ listening and speaking ability,but also develop students’ reading and writing ability,so as to lay a good foundation for further English reading and learning.However,influenced by many factors such as teaching conditions,traditional ideas and family atmosphere,the English level of most rural primary school students cannot reach the goal of level 2,and there are great differences.In order to solve this problem,the author tries to use the stratified teaching method to teach English reading in primary school.Stratified teaching refers to a teaching method that divides students into groups with similar levels and treats them differently according to their existing knowledge,ability level and potential tendency(National Committee for the examination and approval of scientific and technological terms,2013).This experiment takes Teaching Students in Accordance with Their Aptitude,Zone of Proximal Development,Optimization of Teaching Process,Mastery Learning and Differentiated Instruction as the theoretical basis of stratified teaching of English reading.By determining teaching objectives at different levels,designing teaching activities with different difficulties,arranging different homework,and evaluating students at different levels,students’ reading interest,reading ability and reading scores can be improved.This study mainly answers the following three questions:(1)What is the effect of stratified reading teaching on students’ interest in English reading?(2)What is the effect of stratified teaching on students’ reading scores and total scores?(3)What are the changes in students’ learning methods and reading abilities through the stratified teaching?This study takes two classes in Grade 6 Xinhang primary school in Guangde City,Anhui Province as the research subject,class 1 is randomly selected as the experimental class,with a total of 44 people,using the method of stratified teaching.The class 4 is the control class,with 43 people in total,and the stratified teaching method is not used.The experiment was carried out for one semester,and the investigation and research were carried out by means of test,questionnaire and interview.Students were tested before and after the experiment in order to analyze the impact of stratified teaching on students’ performance.A questionnaire survey was conducted on students before and after the experiment in order to analyze the changes of students’ reading interest and reading ability before and after the experiment.The purpose of interviewing students after the experiment is to further analyze the changes of students’ reading interest and reading ability.After the experiment and data collection are completed,spss26 is used for data analysis.The results show that: 1)Through questionnaires,the author found that after stratified teaching,the students’ interest in English reading at all levels of the experimental class was improved.2)Stratified teaching can improve the English reading performance of students at all levels in the experimental class and drive the improvement of the total English scores.3)According to the scores of the questionnaire and the results of the interview,students’ learning methods and reading ability have made a qualitative leap.This study proves that applying stratified teaching to English Reading Teaching in rural primary schools plays a positive role.From a long-term perspective,rural schools are very suitable to adopt the method of stratified teaching.For the educated,the stratified teaching of English reading can improve students’ reading interest,reading ability and reading scores,and also have a positive impact on students’ total English scores.For teaching workers,the implementation of stratified teaching can increase teaching experience,improve teaching ability and provide a good direction for future teaching work.Finally,due to the limitations of various factors,the experiment has many limitations.It is hoped that more educators will pay attention to the stratified teaching of English reading in primary schools in the future. |
