An Investigative Research On The Acceptance Of Chinese Culture By Nigerian University Students

Chinese culture is made of so many aspects,some of which include the Chinese literature,Chinese festivals,Chinese music,Chinese drama,food and drink,etc.But among these many aspects,only very few are actually known and assimilated by the Nigerian populace.As a major point of the propagation of Chinese culture,the writer pinpointed Confucius Institute as a major research zone,then went further to select some Confucius students as the subjects of research.The writer hopes that through carrying out a survey on these students,he will be able to understand how deep they have been able to assimilate the major Chinese culture aspects especially the ones seen in Nigeria or being promoted by Confucius Institute.The writer hopes that the result of this research will be able to give more pointers to Confucius Institute teachers on how best to promote the Chinese language so as to encourage assimilation by the students.The research kicked off by analysis of the data gotten from the survey.First was the analysis of the Chinese culture class arrangement,then successively followed by analysis on the Chinese Culture textbooks,the teachers,their methods of teaching and the tools with which they teach like the multimedia etc.Next was the data about Confucius cultural events,and the students’ suggestions on what can be improved to make the students in general to like and integrate Chinese culture into their lives.Analysis on data based on Chinese festival,dishes,music,literature,kung fu and Chinese products followed next.The rest of the research which discussed: 1.Channels of Chinese cultural acceptance: eg.Confucius institute,studying abroad in China,Chinese film and Television as well as “Made-in-China” goods.2.“The Accepted contents”: Chinese kung fu,music,food and diet as well as chinese festivals.3.Effect of Acceptance of Chinese Culture:Language,Lifestyle,and also the Way of thinking;was conducted based on the results of the survey.Finally,the writer in the conclusion,gave some suggestions based on findings,on improvements Nnamdi Azikiwe University Confucius Institute can make so as to encourage the students to accept Chinese culture more.The various materials used for this research were sourced from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)and from Google scholar.From intensive search on CNKI and lots of external websites including google scholar,the writer found out that a research from the angle of Nigerian students’ acceptance of Chinese culture has never been done by anyone before.This implies,that this research is quite a novel one and as such will form a foundation for other researchers that intend to do research work in this domain.
