In English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017),"Key Competencies" runs throughout.His appearance provides English teachers and researchers with new teaching and research direction.English reading has high percentage in the test and it is widely used in real life.Therefore,cultivating students’ key competencies of English subject in reading teaching has also become the focus of research.This research will investigate the current situation of high school English reading teaching from the perspective of the key competencies of English subject.This research focuses on the following three questions from the perspective of the key competencies of English subject:(1)What is the current situation of high school English reading teaching ?(2)What are the problems in high school English reading teaching ?(3)What are the reasons for these problems?This research gets the main theories and researches about key competencies and high school English reading teaching by searching domestic and international literature.This research combines qualitative with quantitative method.It takes the teachers and students from a high school in Suihua as the research object.The data collection and sorting were carried out by a combination of testing,teacher-student questionnaire and interview,and SPSS19.0 was used to analyze the data.The survey found that English teachers in a high school in Suihua didn’t have a good cognition of key competencies of English subject,and the development status in reading teaching was not balanced.The training of language knowledge was relatively good,but the training of language skills was lacking;The teachers did weak in cultivating students’ creative thinking and critical thinking;However,in cultural consciousness,it lacks the comparison of different cultures and is short of expansion;In terms of learning ability,It is not enough to cultivate students’ reflective ability and make plans to read.Attribution is made in several aspects from teachers,students,curriculum and teaching evaluation methods.Based on the problems and influencing factors in English reading teaching,the author gives the following suggestions: carry out training to strengthen teachers’ teaching theory learning;enrich the forms class,increase interest and cultivate language skills;avoid formalization in teaching,forms serve for the content;Assign different forms of homework and improve the key competencies.This research has a reference value for further related research,but there are also some limitations,and I hope to improve them in the future research.
