| The key competencies were first put forward in Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening Curriculum Reform and Implementing the Fundamental Tasks of cultivating morality issued by the Ministry of Education in 2014,which attracted the attention of teachers and pointed out a new direction for the development of education in China.With the attention of many people,with the rapid development of the economy and society,and the gradual popularization of senior high school education in China,The English Curriculum Standard for Senior High Schools(2020)points out that the key competencies of senior high school English are composed of four aspects: language ability,learning ability,thinking quality and cultural awareness.The curriculum also clearly points out that the key competencies of the subject are the concentrated embodiment of the discipline education value,and it must be well implemented in the teaching work.Reading teaching occupies the most important part of English teaching.English reading plays an important role in improving students’ key competencies.The purpose of this study is to investigate the current situation and existing problems of the application of English key competencies in senior high school English reading teaching design,to provide effective and targeted suggestions for future English reading teaching design.The teachers and students of a No.1 Middle School in Dongying City,Shandong Province were taken as the research objects to explore the following three questions:1.What is the teacher’s understanding of the teaching design of English reading based on the subject key competencies?2.What is the current status of the English subject key competencies in senior high school English reading teaching design?3.What are the factors that influence the implementation of key competencies of English subjects in the teaching design of senior high school English reading?Through the research,it is found that English teachers in senior high schools have realized to some extent that the teaching design of reading should meet the requirements of the key competencies of English subjects,but there are some problems.Through the analysis,the current situation of high school teachers in the design of reading teaching is as follows:first,the development of language skills is emphasized in reading classroom teaching.The cultivation of cultural awareness is only at the surface level of explaining and illustrating cultural knowledge.The cultivation of students’ criticality and creativity in thinking is extremely lacking.Second,teachers fail to fully recognize that students are the subjects of learning and fail to understand each student comprehensively and objectively.Third,teachers do not realize the importance of studying the teaching materials in depth.The main factor affecting the implementation of key competencies in English subjects is the traditional teaching concepts and teaching methods;teachers’ one-sided understanding of key competencies and over-emphasis on language ability;the dual pressure of exams and further education.Finally,according to the research results,in order to better implement the English curriculum standards in the process of English reading teaching design,the author puts forward some feasible suggestions.First,teachers should continue to study deeply,master the latest education and teaching trends,and deepen the key competencies of the subject in the implementation process.Secondly,teachers should be aware of the importance of studying reading materials in depth and improve their ability to study reading texts in depth.Thirdly,teachers need to acquire the skills to use a variety of teaching resources to enhance students’ interest in learning English.Fourthly,teachers should fully recognize that students are the subjects of learning,and should have a comprehensive understanding and objectively evaluate and view students. |
