| The significance of applying vocabulary learning strategies into vocabulary learning has been proved.As to the relevant researches at home and abroad,they have shown that vocabulary association strategies,as one part of the vocabulary learning strategies are conducive to the memory and retrieval of vocabulary knowledge.In addition,through combing related researches,it is found that there are few studies on the relationship between vocabulary association strategies and depth of vocabulary knowledge and only one domestic article is dedicated to the research on the relationship between them;besides,there have not achieved agreement in research results,that is,some studies have found that vocabulary association strategies and in-depth vocabulary knowledge are moderately related(Zhang Ping 2001,2004;Lu Jie,Zhang Zhiqiang2007;etc.),but some studies have found that the correlation between the two is not strong.In this regard,further verification and exploration of the relationship between the two is needed.In order to further verify the relation between the two and know that to what extent the two have related,and then understand the following three problems,i.e.the relationship between use of vocabulary association strategies and depth of vocabulary knowledge,the strategy-use effect and the time efficiency of the use of vocabulary association strategies on the development of in-depth vocabulary knowledge,the author here will adopt quantitative research method,and conduct a survey on Chinese English majors through the research tools like the vocabulary association strategy questionnaire,vocabulary association test.After that,SPSS is utilized to run these analysis operations of descriptive statistics,correlation analysis,multiple regression analysis and weight estimation on the gathered 208 valid data,analyzing and discussing the analysis results,later answering the four questions set in this study by these findings,specifically answering the following four questions:1)What is the use of vocabulary association strategies among Chinese English majors? 2)What is the overall level of in-depth vocabulary knowledge of Chinese English majors? 3)Which sub-strategies of vocabulary association strategy have the most predictive power for each dimension of vocabulary depth knowledge? 4)If the time factor is taken into account,what is the relationship between the sub-strategies of the vocabulary association strategy and the in-depth knowledge level of each vocabulary? Compared with the results of multiple regression analysis,will the original predictive sub-strategies change? Through analysis and research,it is found that: 1)Chinese English majors have a relatively high level of vocabulary association strategy use and a certain awareness of vocabulary deep knowledge learning,but there are still differences in the level of specific strategy use and vocabulary knowledge learning awareness;2)The overall level of depth of vocabulary knowledge development of English majors is quite different;3)There indeed exists a correlation between use vocabulary association strategies and depth of vocabulary knowledge,and with the data value showing different degrees of the relevance between different strategy dimensions and vocabulary in-depth knowledge dimensions;4)According to the results of multiple regression analysis,in the development of a certain level of knowledge,the most prominent sub-strategies for its development are mostly the vocabulary association sub-strategies that use its corresponding in-depth knowledge characteristics of the vocabulary.Besides,it is manifested that the use of multiple vocabulary association strategies has an impact on a certain level of in-depth knowledge learning at the same time instead of one-to-one correspondence between a certain sub-strategy and the vocabulary in-depth knowledge learning corresponding to the strategy dimension;5)In terms of the results presented by weight estimation analysis,there are four findings: firstly,the most predictive vocabulary association sub-strategies to development of both depth of vocabulary knowledge as a whole and of specific knowledge dimensions are consistent with the ones gained by the results of the multiple regression analysis;secondly,as for the influence of time factor on the judgment of the relationship between the use of vocabulary association strategies and the depth of vocabulary knowledge,the results show that the answering time,i.e.the time factor,spent for each test related to the subjects’ in-depth vocabulary knowledge level does have a certain impact on the determination of the relationship between use of vocabulary association strategies and depth of vocabulary knowledge;thirdly,during use of vocabulary association strategies,there is a difference in the connection strength among different aspects of vocabulary in-depth knowledge in subjects’ mental lexicon;and fourthly,the size of the weight power value indicates that the time effect of the use of the vocabulary association strategy is different among groups.Therefore,the research suggests: 1)Teachers should pay heed to the systematic teaching of vocabulary knowledge during instilling knowledge into learners and make students learn how to use vocabulary association strategies.After that,the training and guidance of the vocabulary association strategy should be given learners in the actual teaching process,fulfilling the improvement of learners’ using level of vocabulary association strategies and improvement of their in-depth vocabulary knowledge;2)Pending vocabulary learning,learners should consciously internalize the knowledge structure,make the knowledge structure systematized,and pay attention to the integration of different vocabulary knowledge structure systems,so as to realize the successful association of relevant knowledge and then achieve the mastery and application of vocabulary.Despite the findings,this research still has deficiencies in research tools and research types,and needs to be further supplemented and developed in the future.Considering there being few researches focusing on the relationship between use of vocabulary association strategies and depth of knowledge of vocabulary,this study will do an exploratory research on the relationship between the two in addition to verifying the differences in the existing research findings.This research,based on the perspectives of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics with making a reference to the principles of response time and correctness,explore the relationship between the use of vocabulary association strategies and the development of depth of vocabulary knowledge of Chinese English majors,understand the process of learners’ mental vocabulary processing,observe the results and time efficiency of the use of vocabulary association strategies on the development of four parts consisting of vocabulary knowledge.Yet,given that this research is an exploratory study on the relevance between the two as a whole,there are certain research limitations and deficiencies.The specific details still need to be further developed by subsequent researchers. |
