| Test anxiety is a common phenomenon among students during exams.Improper treatment of test anxiety will not only affect the students academic score,but also will have a negative impact on their mental health.At present,Chinese scholars have carried out a large number of researches on test anxiety,but there are fewer researches on ETA of a specific high school students,and the research aims are different,and the solutions proposed are also different,and the pertinence to solve the problem is not strong.In this study,Canghai Senior High School is taken as an example to investigate the current situation of high school students’ ETA,and analyze the gender-related differences,grade-related differences,and further analyze the causes of the differences,so as to provide some effective and operable suggestions for improving Canghai Senior High School students’ ETA.Hypothesis of Affective Filtering and Attribution Theory are the theoretical bases of this study.And 203 students from four classes of Grade One and Grade Two in Wuzhou Canghai High School were taken as the research subjects.Questionnaires are used as research means.The English Anxiety Questionnaire of Senior High School Students is modified according to the Test Anxiety Scale designed by Sarason.There three dimensions in the questionnaire : cognitive response,physiological arousal and behavioral performance.Questionnaire 2 is about the sources of English test anxiety,mainly investigating the factors affecting high school students’ English test anxiety.Four dimensions are included: worrying about others’ evaluation;worrying about self-evaluation;worrying about the future prospects;worrying about inadequate preparation for the English exams.This study attempts to solve the following three questions :(1)What is the general situation of Canghai high school students’ English test anxiety?(2)What are the gender differences in English test anxiety? What are the differences in English test anxiety among different grades?(3)What are the factors that cause anxiety? The results show that students in Canghai Senior High School have a high level of ETA.In terms of grade,there is no significant difference in the overall anxiety level between Grade One and Grade Two.In terms of gender,there is a significant difference in the overall anxiety level between male students and female students,and females have higher anxiety than males in English test.Finally,English test anxiety mainly comes from four factors: worrying about others’ evaluation,worrying about self-evaluation,worrying about the future and worrying about inadequate preparation for the English exams.According to the survey results,in order to reduce the Canghai High School students’ ETA,this paper puts forward several suggestions: first of all,to help students to establish a correct English tests belief;Secondly,it is necessary to facilitate students to enhance their confidence by finding their own advantages;Finally,to improve students test-taking skills. |
