Study On Ma Hezhi’s Paintings—

Ma Hezhi of the Southern Song Dynasty was famous for his series of works,"The Painting of Red Cliff" and "The Book of Songs".The style of his works is ancient simplicity,elegant and original,creating the technique of "leech drawing" in the traditional Chinese painting of eighteen strokes,and the artistic conception of his works is long and far,presenting the natural and innocent charm of "The Book of Songs",forming a unique personal style.There are few researches on Ma Hezhi’s works in the past.Scholars represented by Gu Ping’An began to conduct in-depth research on Ma Hezhi since modern times,but the main issues involved are the textual research on the authenticity of his works,the year of birth,and his identity Most of his works are based on the opinions of predecessors,and there are few systematic analysis and discussion on the context of his learning and innovation achievements.This article is about Ma Hezhi’s works "The Painting of Red Cliff " and "The Book of Songs" on the above issues.This article takes the works as the breakthrough point,takes the reliable works in the historical records and modern research results as the reference,and takes the relevant academic materials as the assistance,to discuss the inheritance and innovation of Ma Hezhi’s painting.The purpose of this article is to clarify the origin of Ma Hezhi’s works and explore his inheritance and artistic innovation achievements in a more comprehensive way.
