The relationship between visitors and exhibition experience is an issue that has been explored within the discipline of display design. The process of deepening the discipline’s theory has evolved from the earliest display curiosity,to the gradual construction of a knowledge system,to the current stage of building an inclusive exhibition environment, where the relationship between the visitor and the exhibition experience is constantly evolving. The actual situation of the obstructed process of understanding exhibition information is also found. With the continuous evolution of visitors’ needs, how to enable visitors to gain something through the exhibition experience? In what direction should the exhibition experience continue to develop in the future? We will try to find ways to solve the problem. In this paper,we choose the exhibition experience as the research object, and use the role-playing game mechanism as the basis for the research, with the aim of improving the quality of the exhibition experience. From "player" in role-playing game to "visitor" in exhibition experience, both identity states convey information content through the communication and interaction between human and narrative environment. Thus, based on the theoretical background and the actual situation, this paper tries to find the core issues between visitors and exhibition experience. Then, from the overall design of the exhibition experience to the local settings, the relevance of the exhibition experience to the role-playing game mechanism is found. Finally,by analyzing the characteristics of the composition of role-playing game mechanism in exhibition experience and proposing the methodology of its implementation and application, the paper provides new directions and perspectives on the development of ideas for exhibition experience design.
