| As a kind of polite speech act,the use of courteous language to communicate can reflect the speaker’s polite and humble attitude, and prompt the listener to have a sense of identity. In the past researches on formal terms, scholars focused on the definition of concepts and forms of expression, and seldom conducted research on it from the perspective of gender. Therefore, this paper uses the relevant theories of social psycholinguistics to control gender variables, and uses the independent sample t-test and chi-square test of the statistical software SPSS to make an empirical analysis of the gender differences in Chinese guest phrases among college students. The first chapter is based on the previous survey results, taking Likert5-degree scale as the main type of questionnaire items, determining five dimensions of social distance, social occasion, social intention, social expectation and social role, and distributing questionnaires to male and female college students from 8 universities in Nanning City, and then collecting and analyzing the questionnaires. The second chapter further explores the gender distribution of the usage frequency and recognition degree of formal expressions among male and female college students, investigates the main social variables affecting the gender differences of formal expressions, and broadens the research ideas of gender differences in verbal communication,in order to reduce people’s prejudice against some polite expressions. The third chapter, based on relevant research results of sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, combines five social variables: social distance, social occasion, social intention, social expectation and social role, and discusses the causes of gender differences in formal language from three aspects: subject perception, social culture and speech imitation. The statistical results show that the gender differences in Chinese guest phrases are indeed reflected in the usage and recognition. In general, women’s usage frequency and recognition of guest phrases are higher than men’s.Among them,in the two dimensions of social distance and social occasions, due to the physical and psychological differences between the sexes, and in the process of socialization, there are also differences in social attributes such as conversational style and language use between men and women.Among them, the female group’s recognition and approval of guest phrases are also higher than those of the male group. In addition, most men prefer to use courtesy language in club activities and workplaces in order to obtain effective conversational information;while most women believe that the rational use of courteous language can reflect personal qualities and harmonious interpersonal relationships. |
