At present, increasing attention is paid to the study of conservation biology and ecology, with more frequent academic exchanges. This translation material gathers the most recent research findings on the ecology and conservation of marine vertebrates in Latin America, which is selected in order to offering references for China’s professionals and researchers in this field.Texts of marine ecology are typically professionalized and abundant in terminology, with complex sentences, accurate and concise in wording, formal, well structured, clear, and coherent in logic. Therefore, their translation should meet the standard of professional communication,in accordance with the style of EST and idiomatic Chinese.Analyzing the feature of the source text, the translator completes this practice under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation, refering to plenty of parallel texts and professional advice. In the practice, the emphasis and difficulty lie in how to translate terminologies accurately, flexibly deal with long and complex sentences and clarify the inner logic of the text at discourse level. Therefore, the translator adopts translation methhods such as recreation, synonym substitution, restructuring the long and complex sentences, and deconstructing and reconstructing the discourses logically so as to cope with these difficulties. Also, the translator describes the translation process by case analysis at lexical, syntactic and discourse level.Through this practice, the translator fully recognizes the feature of texts of marine ecology and the importance of the combination of translation theory and practice and gives corresponding advice for translating texts of marine ecology.
