A Translation Report On Annual Review Of Marine Science Excerpt Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

This report is on translation of the excerpts of Annual Review of Marine Science, aiming to study the E-C translation of marine ecology scientific literature. It analyses the language feature and style of marine ecology scientific literature, and tries to find out the scientific and effective translation methods and strategies, which might be referential to the further translation study on marine ecology scientific literature. The translation is under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory and in order to realize marine ecology scientific literature’s function of information transfer, the translator mainly uses "communicative translation" to get a high-quality translation, making it possible for target-text readers to get the same understanding and comprehension as source-text readers. It is expected that the translation could be recognized by experts in the marine ecology field and could help them learn the world’s advanced knowledge and technology to promote the marine ecology development of China.This report covers six parts:The beginning is an introduction. And the first chapter introduces the background and aims of this translation study. The second chapter provides relevant information on Newmark’s Text Type Theory as well as "semantic translation" and "communicative translation". Chapter three discusses the language style of marine ecology scientific literature and the application of Newmark’s translation theory in marine ecology scientific literature translation. Chapter four is a conclusion about what the translator has learned from the translation project as well as problems which haven’t been solved in the translation process.
