A Study On Translation Strategies Of Marine English Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory

Nowadays,Chinese Navy has been developing rapidly,and learning from the advanced experience and achievements of the US Navy fleet has an important reference role in the maintenance of our fleet.In view that there are a large number of jargons and long or medium-length sentences in EST texts,and most of which are informative texts,translation should follow the principle of "fidelity first" and adopt appropriate translation methods to make it easy to understand.Based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this report studies the English-Chinese translation strategies of marine English starting from judging the text type,then conducting case analysis from the lexical and sentence levels,and finally proposing major translation strategies under the guidance of communicative translation theory,namely ostensive representation of acronyms,preposition and transformation of modifiers,conversion from nominal phrases to verbal phrases,transformation of voices,reorganization of sentence groups and ostensive explanation of logical clues.It is hoped that this study could provide helpful guidance and reference for the translation practice of EST.
