| Based on Daniel Gile’s Effort Model, this study explores the influence of note-taking on the logic of interpretation in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation, aiming to study some note’s features that make the interpretation more logical. The subjects of this experiment were second-year postgraduates majoring in English interpretation in a foreign language university in Northeast China. The experiment consisted of English-Chinese consecutive interpretation with and without note-taking.Retrospective interview was used as an experimental method.Three experimental questions are raised: 1.Will note-taking influence the logic of the interpretation? 2.If so,what features in notes will reflect the logical problems of the interpretation? 3.What logic features are presented in student interpreters’ note-taking who performed more logically? The results show that: First,if the material is of proper difficulty and is divided into less-than-one-minute chunks,note-taking will cause certain obstacles to the logic of the interpretation.Second, according to the retrospective interview from the subjects, this could be related to the overall format and some detail features of the notes, such as the logic symbols and high-frequency words on the notes.Third, after analyzing the notes, separation is the most helpful note-taking method among all.More logic symbols and high-frequency words in note-taking would bring more logical interpretationLogic is an important indicator of interpreting performance.Note-taking is an imperative part of consecutive interpreting. In theory,It is hoped that this study could provide some insights for exploring the relations of note-taking and interpretation logic. In practice, student interpreters can improve their note-taking formats to deliver more logical interpretation. |
