| The report is written on the basis of the English-Chinese translation of The Routledge Handbook of Mass Media Ethics(Chapters 3 and 5).And it dissects and elaborates the translation of the implicit information existing typically in the source text. The Routledge Handbook of Mass Media Ethics is an academic text.It examines the development of mass media in terms of ethics and summarizes global research findings on media ethics over the past 40 years, which can offer some reference for the domestic academic research on this subject. The source text is characterized by formal and compact style, logical sentence structures and a lot of implicit information.Due to the differences between English and Chinese languages, the difficulties for the translator to fulfill the translation task are how to deal with the implicit information in translation.Accordingly, this report mainly focuses on how to precisely and clearly translate such implicit information of an academic text from both lexical and textual levels.Nouns, verbs and adjectives are the focuses at lexical level;while the translation of the implicit information at textual level is mainly discussed from two aspects,i.e.,referential information and implicit logic.Compensation methods such as extension, interpretation, amplification and sentence reconstruction are adopted in order to translate such implicit information in a logical way.By translating the source text and writing this report, the author of the report gets a better understanding of translation work and accumulates more translation experience as well. The author hopes that the translation methods and suggestions of the report can be of use for other translators in the translation practice of the similar text afterwards. |
