The strategy of spreading Chinese culture overseas is a cultural construction guideline put forward by China at the beginning of the 21 st century.In addition,the Chinese Academy of Culture has also formulated the policy of “one body and two wings”,namely,“one body”refers to the Chinese cultural concept and “two wings” refer to traditional Chinese medicine and tea.The Classic of Tea is the first classic work of tea in China and overseas so that it can be called as the encyclopedia of tea.With the whole text showing a complete tea culture system merely in over 7000 words,The Classic of Tea sublimes the seemingly ordinary tea to a rich spiritual and cultural level.As a graduate student majoring in English literature of an agricultural university,I know deep down that we must apply better translation theories guiding the translation process to let the Chinese tea culture go out in a better way and to further promote the translation and external communication of agricultural classics.At the beginning of the 21 st century,the eco-translatology concept was proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen.Eco-translatology claims that the process of translation is that of the translators’ “adaptive selection” and “selective adaption”,that is,the translators should focus on “adaption” and “selection” when translating.In the “adaption” stage,the translators must adapt to the translational eco-environment;and in the “selection” stage,the translators must actively choose translation strategies and methods to meet the requirements of adaption.The concept of eco-translatology not only conforms to the current trend of global ecological thoughts,but also brings new vitality and thinking ways into the translation field,providing a new perspective for translation studies.This thesis studies the C-E translation of The Classic of Tea translated by Jiang Yi and Jiang Xin from the perspective of eco-translatology,and analyzes the translation process of this English version with a large number of examples.This thesis consists of six parts: the first chapter is a general introduction,including research background,research significance,research methods and framework.The second chapter is a review of the literature,reviewing the domestic and foreign research trends of the eco-translatology and the C-E translations of The Classic of Tea.The third chapter is an overview of the core concept of eco-translatology,laying the groundwork for the “three dimensional” analysis section.The fourth chapter is the main part of this thesis.It tries to prove that the translation process of the C-E translation of The Classic of Tea translated by Jiang Yi and Jiang Xin is a process of the translators’ continuous adaption to the translational eco-environment and adaptive selection of the translation strategies and methods;it also points out that the C-E translation of The Classic of Tea translated by Jiang Yi and Jiang Xin reflects the translators’ adaption to translational ecoenvironment,from which it can be seen that the translational eco-environment is particularly important for the production of translated texts;and it analyzes how the translators have made adaptive selection and transformation in linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension,which influences and promotes one another,that is,the linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension are inseparably interconnected and reinforced.Thus the final communication purpose has been smoothly achieved and the best translation has also been acquired.The fifth chapter explores the enlightenment of ecotranslatology on the C-E translation of agricultural classics.The sixth chapter serves as a conclusion of this study.It is pointed out that eco-translatology is feasible and practical in the C-E translation of The Classic of Tea,which can also be applied to guide the C-E translation and spread of Chinese agricultural classics.
