| Core socialist values are the mainstream value orientation in China, which are put forward by the Communist Party of China and are originated from the system of core socialist values. In 2012,core socialist values were clearly stated for the first time in the 18 th Communist Party of China National Congress.Cultivating and observing core socialist values are regarded as a strategic task.Senior high school is a crucial period of forming correct world outlook, views on life and values, which enables students to form correct ideological understandings. With the deepening development of the curriculum reform,English teaching has become the main position of senior high school education.Textbooks are the fundamental basis of teaching,so studying core socialist values embodied in the senior high school English textbooks is of great significance to students’ ideological education. The research takes five compulsory textbooks of New Senior English for China(PEP,the 2nd Edition,2007,Book 1~5)as the subject, using literature research method and textual analysis method to determine the research framework, which mainly investigates the value orientation embodied in the textbooks by analyzing the distribution of the three different levels(nation, society, and individual)of core socialist values.Research questions are as follows.Firstly, how are core socialist values distributed in the textbooks? Secondly, what are the characteristics of value orientation embodied in the textbooks? Thirdly, given the value orientation embodied in the textbooks, what teaching suggestions can we put forward?Although the different levels of core socialist values in the textbooks are unevenly distributed, core socialist values run throughout the textbooks. The value orientation is explicitly and implicitly embodied in the textbooks. In order to give full play to the leading role of textbooks, senior high school teachers should shift from knowledge transmitters to value guides and cultivate students’ values, which is the significance of ideological and political teaching of foreign language. |
