| English phonetics is an important part of English.Vocabulary acquisition,listening comprehension and oral communication are influenced by phonetic teaching,which plays an important role in English learning.Primary school period is the critical period of language learning.According to the physical and psychological characteristics and development needs of primary school students,the purpose of primary school English teaching is to stimulate students’ interest in learning,cultivate their positive attitudes,and establish a preliminary self-confidence in learning English;to cultivate students’ certain sense of language and lay a good foundation of pronunciation and intonation;to form the ability to conduct simple daily communications in English and lay the foundation for further learning.Therefore,English phonetic teaching has become an important part in primary school English teaching.However,in actual primary school English teaching,phonetic teaching has not received enough attention,which seriously affects the quality of English teaching.This research employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to study the following three issues:1.What is the current situation of primary school English phonetic teaching in Ganzhou?2.What are the problems existing in primary school English phonetic teaching?3.What are the causes of these problems and how to solve the problems?In this research,a phonetic questionnaire survey is conducted on 200 primary school students of fifth and sixth grade in Ganzhou and 150 primary school English teachers,and interviews are conducted on phonetic teaching and learning with 5students and 5 teachers.At the students’ level,it is mainly a survey of students’ English phonetic learning needs;at the teachers’ level,the survey mainly includes several aspects such as the status and importance of phonetic teaching,phonetic teaching goals,phonetic teaching contents,phonetic teaching methods,and phonetic teaching evaluation.The author combines the interviews with teachers and students to analyze and organize the collected data.The survey results show the following problems existing in primary school English phonetic teaching: inaccurate positioning of phonetic teaching goals;single method of phonetic teaching;incomplete phonetic teaching contents;single evaluation method of phonetic teaching.Through the analysis of the existing problems,it is found that the main causes of the above problems are: the influence of exam-oriented education and traditional teaching concepts;imperfect curriculum arrangements;the lack of motivation for teachers to actively study;the lack of a scientific evaluation mechanism.According to the analysis of the problems and the causes,the author has put forward feasible suggestions to solve the problems of English phonetic teaching. |
