| Global futures and options markets are resurging and have been being hot for decades.Given this background,Joe Duarte,an experienced futures and options trader, wrote the book,Futures & Options for Dummies, hoping to give readers tools that can be used for analyzing, trading or just gaining a better understanding of futures and options. This report reviews the translation of Chapters 1-5 of Futures & Options for Dummies which consists of 22 chapters. The translator chooses to translate Chapters 1-5 of the book, which introduces readers to the futures and options markets and market analysis. The source text has strong logic, without losing vividness and interestingness. In consideration of the language features of the source text, the translator observes the translation criteria of ―accuracy, fluency and vividness‖ in translation to ensure the readability of the target text.Based on that, the translator pays much attention to presenting the logical relations of the source text in the target text. Some logical relations are expressed explicitly in the source text through logical words such as conjunctions and prepositions. Many logical relations, however, are expressed implicitly in the source text. While reading and translating the source text, the translator notices that these implicit logical relations mainly exist in verbs, phrasal verbs, noun phrases, clauses and between sentences of the source text.Ignoring these implicit logical relations can result in translationese and even mistranslation in the target text, and then will reduce the readability of the target text.To observe the translation criteria, the translator mainly uses five translation methods, namely amplification, conversion, division, omission and synthesization,to present these implicit logical relations, thus making the target text more accurate, fluent and vivid. |
