E-C Translation Of Sentences With Implicit Logical Relations In Treating Childhood And Adolescent Anxiety:a Guide For Caregivers(Excerpts)

Logical relations in English are often expressed in the form of explicit conjunctions,which are extremely important for readers to understand the text.However,in English text for science and technology(EST),logical relations are not presented in explicit forms,but are usually implied in words,sentences,grammatical structures and texts.Technical texts focus on the coherence in narration and logic,the clarity and the smoothness in expression.Therefore,recognizing the implicit logical relationship in the text and using the method of explicitation to clarify them can help translators express the content smoothly and clearly,and also can help them convey the meaning to readers faithfully.In a broad sense,Treating Childhood and Adolescent Anxiety: A Guide for Caregivers is a practical technical text providing professionals and parents with treatment methods for children and adolescents with anxiety.The translator selects two chapters as her translation text,where she finds some sentences with implicit logical relations,and they are in different expression forms.Based on this,this report analyzes the logical relations,points out the expression forms of the implicit logical relations in the text,and summarizes their corresponding explicit translation techniques.Through case analysis,the translator finds that:1.If a component in a sentence changes its function,implying causal,conditional or adversative logical relationship,conversion can be used to clarify its logical relations with the main clause;2.In sentences with long subjects and are not separated by commas where causal or conditional relationship is implied,splitting can be used to organize the logic of the sentence;3.If the sentence has chaotic word order and cannot be literally translated,where the causal relationship is implied,recasting can be used to straighten out the logical relationship of sentences;4.If the sentence can be literally translated,but some of its components imply conditional or adversative logical relations,amplification can be used to convey the logical relations.
