| Senior High school English Curriculum Standards(2017)states that English Curriculum plays an important role in educational function,aiming to develop students’ English Key Competence,which contains language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.Language ability is the fundamental element of English Key Competence and reading competence is the core competence of language ability.However,under the pressure of college entrance examination there are still many problems in English reading teaching.Senior high school teachers attach great importance to reading teaching.They analyze passage carefully and even teach grammar and language points one by one,but still hardly activate students’ interest and improve students’ scores effectively.Literature circle is a reading teaching method which was first put forward in 1982 in America.Literature circle is student-oriented,combining individual learning with cooperative learning.It enjoys great popularity in America for respecting students’ individual interpretation and organizing colorful activities.This method is widely used in language teaching abroad and achieves a lot while in China the practice of literature circle in English reading teaching is still in its early stage.Therefore,this study attempts to apply literature circle to senior high school English reading teaching to find out effective practical way.The author carried out an action research on influence of literature circles towards students’ English reading competence,in order to study the following two questions:(1)Can the application of literature circle improve students’ English reading competence?(2)Can the application of literature circle influence students’ interest in English.Questionnaire,test,class observation and interview were used in the 20-week research.SPSS18.0 and Excel are used to analyze collected data.Based on the research some conclusions are drawn:(1)The application of literature circle can improve students’ English reading competence.(2)The application of literature circle activates students’ interest in English.(3)The application of literature circle can satisfy students’ personal requirements.The findings provide reference to senior high school reading teaching,but there are still some shortcomings.Research subjects,range and time are limited,which can be improved in future research. |
