The translation material is selected from chapter six of the book University Technology Transfer: What It Is and How to Do It written by Tom Hockaday. This book mainly discusses some dilemmas of university technology transfer and the effective ways to enter the market.Meanwhile,it puts forward reasonable suggestions about how universities effectively develop and operate their own technology transfer offices. And translating this book has a great reference value and practical significance for the research of technology transfer in Chinese universities. The text is an informative text which focuses on delivering objective facts and information. The book covers the fields of economy, technology, law, and so on.Its wording is plain and accurate, containing a large number of technical terms. The key and difficult points are the translation of titles, sentences, and words with changed meanings.Based on Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the translator adopts some translation skills, such as conversion, amplification, division, and so on,to handle the original text from the title, lexical and syntactic level.By doing so,the translation can become more accurate and fluent.Through this translation practice, the translator draws the following implications:Firstly, for the words with changed meanings, the translator should choose the most appropriate translated version on the basis of the specific context.Secondly, when handling the sentences, the translator should lay stress on the accuracy of the original information and then adopts the corresponding translation skills to make the translation smooth and natural. Finally, when translating the titles, the translator should endeavor to grasp their main ideas,so that the translation can be precise and eye-catching and stimulate the readers’ interest.
