The source text of this translation project is selected from the book World Heritage Sites: Tourism,Local Communities and Conservation Activities,which was compiled by Takamitsu Jimura.The excerpts are originated from the Chapter 2“Heritage Management and Conservation Activities at World Heritage Sites”,and Chapter 3 “Tourism Development at World Heritage Sites”.The source text is an interdisciplinary research report with the characteristics of authenticity,professionalism and pertinence.It involves the knowledge of tourism,heritage,environment,social culture and so on.The language is objective and concise,and aims to provide complete and clear information to readers.According to the text type of Newmark,the original text belongs to informative text.Guided by the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida,this paper makes an analysis of difficulties and solutions from the perspective of lexical level(including professional words),structural level,unit conversion and gloss translation based on the characteristics and linguistic features of the text.A large number of specialized terms appear in the text.How to find the unity and ensure the consistency is the key to measure the quality of the translation.This paper will analyze the words from polysemy and class conversion.In terms of structural level,voice conversion,amplification,and restructuring will be adopted to achieve functional equivalence,in order to be more acceptable to the target language readers.With a high degree of professionalism,it contains many professional words related to economy and tourism.The author uses gloss translation method to explain them,so as to help readers quickly grasp the meaning of them.Eventually,the experience and problems are elaborated in this paper to provide reference for future practice.
