| The traditional English reading teaching overemphasizes the input of students’ language knowledge and the cultivation of their language skills.There exists the phenomenon that reading teaching is conducted in a superficial way.The neglect of the whole meaning and connotation of reading text is not conducive to the cultivation of students’ key competence.Aiming at the disadvantages of traditional teaching and the need of the development of the present teaching practice,The English Curriculum Standard for General Senior High Schools(2017 edition)advocates that one of the curriculum contents should be guided by the theme context,carrying out reading class teaching based on theme meaning inquiry.More and more English teachers begin to pay attention to the teaching of reading based on theme meaning inquiry,but due to the lack of theoretical knowledge and practical guidance,most teachers still do not know how to implement the teaching of reading based on theme meaning inquiry.Based on the case study of two high school teachers of G middle school in Haikou,this study focuses on the core content of “How to develop the theme-based meaning inquiry teaching in practical teaching”,using classroom observation method,questionnaire survey method,interview method,to explore the following three questions:1.How does the teacher implement the reading teaching based on theme meaning inquiry?2.What is the effect of the teaching of reading based on theme meaning inquiry from the student’s perspectives?3.What are the difficulties in the implementation of theme-based meaning inquiry in reading class?The results show: First,both teacher A and teacher B are willing to implement theme-based meaning inquiry,but lack the ability of enquiring theme deeply.Second,the teaching effect of teacher B’s theme-based inquiry is better than teacher A’s.Third,there are some problems such as the teacher’s limited ability of theme inquiry and the teacher’s lack of practical guidance in the reading class teaching theme-based meaning inquiry.Based on the above discussion,the author puts forward some suggestions on the theme-based meaning inquiry teaching,in order to provide reference for creating a more perfect reading class. |
