| The “New Curriculum Standards” proposes the construction of curriculum content and teaching methods consistent with the curriculum objectives,and emphasizes the core role of theme meaning exploration in English teaching and learning.In English teaching of high school,it requires teachers to think how to promote the integrated development of students’ language ability,learning ability,thinking capacity and cultural awareness in the thematic context.Therefore,the author carries out reading action research with senior school students from Ganzhou district.The following three problems are intended to be solved:(1)Can English reading teaching based on theme meaning exploration improve students’ reading interest and confidence?(2)Does English reading teaching based on theme meaning exploration help to improve students’ reading comprehension ability?(3)How can the English teacher design reading teaching based on theme meaning exploration? Specifically,Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives and “New Curriculum Standards” are combined to implement the backward design in the reading class in which teaching activities are arranged according to the teaching objectives and evaluation evidence.With the guidance of the theme clues,students go deeper step by step to explore the framework structure and deep connotation of the reading text.Meanwhile,students are guided to accumulate language knowledge and practice reading skills in the theme context,so as to ultimately improve their reading ability.In addition,after-class extended reading and relevant tools such as reading records sheet and vocabulary mind maps are recommended to broaden students’ reading horizons and accumulate language knowledge.This research lasts for three months and is carried out in strict accordance with“research objects analysis,research plan,implementation,reflection and evaluation”.In the action researches,the teacher carries out reading teaching of three thematic discourses respectively.And after dynamic monitoring and analyzing the data collected in questionnaires,interview,reading test and reading record sheets,the conclusions are as follows :(1)English reading teaching based on theme meaning exploration is helpful to improve students’ reading interest and confidence;(2)Theme meaning exploration in reading has a positive effect on promoting students’ reading comprehension ability especially on discourse deconstruction,language knowledge accumulation,summary and evaluation.(3)Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives and Backward Design Theory can effectively guide the thematic inquiry reading design;In conclusion,the combination of theme meaning exploration reading and backward design provides a new teaching idea for teachers.In the future teaching,it is suggested for teachers to enhance their ability of discourse analysis and to create thematic learning atmosphere with purposeful thematic activities.Also,a close connection between in-class and extra-curricular reading is of great benefit to improve students’ reading literacy. |
