Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)emerged in the 1980 s and gradually developed into an foreign language teaching approach with international influence.In 2001,the New National English Curriculum Standard was issued by the Ministry of Education of China and advocated implementing Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)in the process of teaching.TBLT mainly focuses on the cultivation of students’ capacity of language application through achieving the task goals and experiencing the success in the process of perception,experience,practice,participation and cooperation under the guidance of teachers.Over the last 20 years,TBLT has been widely applied in junior high schools in China.However,What is the actual popularity of the TBLT in classroom teaching? How do teachers view the TBLT? What is the implementation effect of the TBLT and how do students view the TBLT? What are the difficulties and challenges to implement the TBLT?Therefore,in this study,teachers and students of an junior high school in Shenzhen were chosen as the research object,and investigated and studied through questionnaire and interview.Through investigation and research,the following conclusions can be drawn:First,most English teachers understand the basic concept of the TBLT and have a positive attitude.They like and are willing to teach in their lessons with the TBLT,but few of them can successfully apply the method for the limitation of their personal capacity.Second,there are many problems and challenges in the implementation of the TBLT,such as heavy workload of lesson preparation,insufficient supporting materials,and deficient time and energy.Third,most students accept TBLT in their classes.It can effectively enhance students’ learning initiative and enthusiasm,and cultivate their independence,innovation as well as team cooperation.For these,some suggestions have been put forward as follows.Firstly,schools should strengthen professional training for teachers to improve their professional capacity.Secondly,the education departments should organize and develop more materials of the TBLT to relieve the stress of lesson preparation.Thirdly,teachers should learn how to better use TBLT through actively listening to students’ opinions,keeping pace with the times,learning continuously,changing teaching concepts,as well as accepting novel things and ideas.Lastly,it’s necessary to establish a complete system of teaching evaluation for the implementation of task-based teaching model.From this study,it is not difficult to see a series of inspirations brought by the TBLT for the reform of foreign language teaching in China,such as student centered;task oriented;on the principle of cooperation;and with technology as the means.Therefore,it is surely believed that our English classroom will be full of vitality as long as all these principles and inspirations can be implemented according to the actual situation in the teaching process.
