This article is an English-to-Chinese practice translation report on the translation of an engineering text.The original title is Damage Features of RC Slabs Subjected to Air and Underwater Contact Eplosions.This was translated during the translator’s internship at Guangzhou Huanyu Translation Service Co.,Ltd.The source text is related to water conservancy and hydropower projects and contain many terms and collocations.The clients demand the accuracy,conciseness and smoothness of the translation.The translator should be faithful to the meaning and style of the source text,and ensure the quality of the translation by adopting appropriate translation methods,reviewing and modifying the translated texts to avoid misunderstandings within the given time.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the translator chose appropriate translation methods,revised the translation and summarized the translation experience.The translator also reviewed and revised the translation several times and summarized the translation experience.This report consists of five parts: the first part gives a brief introduction of this translation project and the second part describes the translation process.The third part discusses the characteristics of the source text and potential translation problems.The fourth part analyzes the translation examples and relevant translation methods from the perspective of functional equivalence theory.The fifth part is a brief summary of the experience of this translation project.
