With the popularization of the Internet, people can take online courses of world-famous universities anytime anywhere.Net Ease Open Courses is a free platform that provides users with courses of top universities including Harvard University and Oxford University. The distinct themes and professional content of open courses, and the individual style and flexible performance of the speakers all bring great difficulties to the interpretation work. This report selects Oxford University’s open course Language Impairment and Dyslexia in Children as the material for simulated consecutive interpreting, hoping to explore the strategies and methods of open course interpreting.During the process, the reporter found that the biggest problem was the difficulty in listening comprehension, which is the first section of interpreting.Interpreters must attach great importance to listening comprehension as it directly affects the quality of reproduction. This report categorizes listening comprehension barriers into linguistic and non-linguistic ones. The obstacles at linguistic level include improper analysis of complex sentence, inaccurate understanding of logical relations and unfamiliarity with medical terminology. The obstacles at non-linguistic level include lack of background knowledge and inappropriate energy distribution. The reporter conducts case analysis on the problems and proposes solutions: at linguistic level, the reporter can strengthen the sense-group division, emphasize logical words in note-taking and get familiar with medical terminology before the task;at non-linguistic level, the reporter can accumulate background knowledge and improve effort distribution. It is hoped that this report can provide some suggestions for other interpreting learners to overcome obstacles in listening comprehension, thus improving their interpreting skills.
