| Reading,one of the receptive skills,is more important than ever before in such a digital time.Just as Geske and Ozola(2008)mention that reading ability is a kind of skill,it plays a basic role in the entire learning process that can stimulate students to learn languages and study literature.Besides,it also has important effect on examination scores.According to the English Curriculum Standard in senior high school(2017)(hereafter referred to as the New Curriculum Standard),which requires students to develop core competence of English discipline.Outcome-based Education(hereafter referred to as OBE)theory emphasizes what outcome student achieved,what student learned rather than what teacher taught,the output of the teaching process instead of input.This research proposes to affirm that OBE theory can improve students’ English reading interest and reading performance in high school.The research questions are as follows:Question 1: What effect will the application of OBE theory to English reading teaching in senior high school have on motivating students’ interest in Reading?Question 2: What effect will the application of OBE theory to English reading teaching in senior high school have on improving students’ Reading performances?The experiment is carried out in a senior high school in Chifeng City,inner Mongolia province.In the experiment,82 students are chosen as experimental object from two parallel classes in senior one.One class is set as Control Class(CC),and the other is Experimental Class(EC).CC is taught by traditional task-based teaching method,and EC is outcome-oriented.The experiment lasts one term.Both quantitative and qualitative instruments are adopted in the research,that is,questionnaire,test and interview.At last,all the data and statistics collected from them are analyzed by SPSS.The results of the experiment show that: first,the English reading teaching model based on OBE theory makes a great difference to traditional reading teaching,it is beneficial to arouse their reading interest.Second,it can improve students’ English reading performance to some extent.In short,the application of OBE theory to English reading teaching is effective and practicable in senior high school. |
