Social development and industrial changes have put forward new requirements in relation to the knowledge foundation and comprehensive qualities for technical and skillful talents.In May 2017,the Ministry of Education held a conference on five public basic courses(including English)in secondary vocational schools,and established "secondary vocational English curriculum standards setting committee".The goal is to cultivate high-quality workers and technical talents with all-round development of morality,intelligence,physique,aesthetics and labor,and to advocate the implementation of new national vocational English curriculum standards as well according to The National Vocational Education Reform Implementation Plan.In March 2020,the general office of the Ministry of Education issued The English Curriculum Standard for Secondary Vocational Schools.On January 24,2019,The National Vocational Education Reform Implementation Plan was issued by the State Council.In accordance with General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statement on education and the requirements of the spirit of the National Education Conference,7 aspects and 20 reform measures concerning vocational education reform in the new era were proposed.The plan clarified that “the construction of vocational education must be strengthened nation wide,and the party’s education policy and morality education must be fully implemented,so as to deepen course reforms in vocational schools and improve the qulity of talents.Based on the above-mentioned "plan" and "standards" as research background,this research summarizes the previous domestic and foreign research results on ideological and political education in courses and on core competences,and uses this as a basis to try a new English teaching model,so as to optimize and adjust teaching method,improve teaching strategies,and provide a variety of classroom assessment methods.The new teaching mode in this study integrates secondary school English teaching with ideological and political education and English core competences.This study attempts to verify whether the new teaching model have effect on students’ English language competence,and wheteher it influence studnets’ core competences such as students’ professional communication,perception of differences in thinking,cross-cultural understanding,and autonomous learning.Quasi-experimental research method are adopted as research design framework of the study.Altogether 88 students majoring in “flight attendant” are involved as research subjects.Class One of 2020 Grade is elected to be the Experimental Group while Class Two of 2020 Grade as the Control Group.In the process of the teaching experiment,research tools such as questionnaires,interviews,test papers,and performance evaluation forms are used to collect data in relation to the teaching experiment which lasts for one semester.In the idelogical and political education integrated English teaching experiment,data obtained from the tests、the questionnaire investigation and interview are analized and thus answer the following question:1.What impact does ideological and political education integrated English teaching have on students’ overall English language proficiency?2.Does ideological and political education integrated English teaching have effect on students’ core competences such as professional communication,cross-cultural understanding,perception of differences in thinking,and autonomous learning? If yes,in what way?The results show that,through ideological and political education integrated English teaching,students in the Experimental Group improves significantly in terms of their overall English language proficiency in the posttest.The test results also reveal that the new teaching model have positive impact on students’ professional communication ability.The composition part in the test shows students’ crosscultural understanding has been improved as well.Analysis of questionnaire data indicates that students in the Experimental Group show some improvement in terms of“autonomous learning ability”.They also show some improvement in terms of their sensitivity of the difference of thinking.However,some inadequacies stil exist in this study.Firstly,there is a lack of foreign literature on " Ideological and Political Education",which cause the most part of literature review comes from domestic researchers and their findings.Secondly,the sbjects sample of the study are not very representative,coming from a relatively small scope of school,major,and student.Finally,the research lasts only for one semester.The author believes that if more research time is available,the researchresults may be different.The author finally puts forward some suggestions,and hopes to provide some implications and references for future research.
