In the high school English teaching stage, the part of reading teaching is very large, and a large amount of English reading can not only help students increase vocabulary accumulation, cultivate students’ sense of English language. To a certain extent,it can also improve students’ writing level. However, through reading relevant literature, the author understands that in the current English reading teaching, some teachers still attach too much importance to the explanation of language knowledge in reading texts.Students passively accept knowledge, they lack of opportunities for independent thinking, and their reading materials are only limited to textbooks, some teachers ignore the cultivation of students’ language expression ability and reading ability, resulting in students gradually losing interest in English, and even getting bored. Therefore, teachers need to consider that how to ameliorate the current teaching problems, without doubt, the joint efforts of teachers and students are also essential. The Reading Circles originated in 1982,and Harvey Daniels formally defined the concept in 1994.Reading Circles is a group which consists of students who choose the same reading material. In this group, students work together to complete learning tasks according to their respective roles. As an auxiliary teaching model, the Reading Circles model has great advantages over the regular reading teaching model. The first is that the classroom in the Reading Circles model is student-centered.Students finish reading tasks independently after class and discuss the content of reading text in groups in class. The second is that the class teaching activities in the Reading Circles model are rich, group cooperative learning can stimulate students’ initiative and consciousness in learning to a certain extent. In the atmosphere of group cooperation, students can actively read and complete the corresponding learning tasks under the drive of role.Third is that the Reading Circles model emphasizes students’ independent learning ability, which can cultivate students’ habits of independent reading and independent thinking.Based on the theory of cooperative learning, reader response theory, and autonomous learning theory, this study takes 110 students of grade 2 in senior high school at a middle school in Tumushuke as the research object, there are a total of 110 students in both classes, half in the experimental class(EC)and half in the control class(CC),aiming to explore whether students’ attitude towards English reading and English reading scores will be positively affected by the Reading Circles model. In order to achieve the purpose of the research, the author conducts a four-month teaching experiment at a middle school in Tumushuke. In the experiment, the author chooses to experiment every Thursday afternoon in the reading class held by the school,to ensure that it does not affect the completion of the normal teaching objectives of the experimental class and control class. The Oxford Bookworm series is used as the experimental reading materials for this study. The Reading Circles model is adopted in EC,and the “bottom-up” reading teaching model is adopted in CC.The author tries to explore the following two questions:1.Can the Reading Circles model have a positive impact on students’ English reading attitude?2.Can the Reading Circles model improve senior high school students’ reading scores? Before and after the teaching experiment, questionnaires and reading comprehension test papers are distributed in EC and the control class. After the experiment, six students representing different roles in Reading Circles model in EC are interviewed for this study. Finally,SPSS 26.0 is used to analyze the data collected from the questionnaire and reading comprehension test, and finally concludes that the high school students’ attitude towards English reading can be positively influenced by the Reading Circles model. It is propitious to make students with strong interest and happy state of mind to study, and it is conducive to improve students’ English reading scores.
