The Ministry of Education issued the "English Curriculum Standards for Secondary Vocational Schools"(2020 Edition)in May 2020,which mentioned that core competency is the concentrated expression of the value of discipline education,and it is the correct value concept,necessary character and key ability that students gradually form through discipline study and practice.Vocational education is an important part of the national education system and has the same important status as general education.However,at present,most secondary vocational schools still apply the traditional teaching mode,which makes students with weak foundations have less and less interest and confidence in English learning.In language learning,listening is regarded as a very important method of language input for language learners,and is an important skill.Listening comprehension is not a cognitive process of receiving information intact,but an active meaning interpretation process.Scaffolding teaching is a student-centered teaching model based on Piaget’s constructivist cognitive theory and Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development.In the scaffolding teaching mode,teachers are the organizers,guides,helpers and facilitators,focusing on cultivating students’ learning ability and stimulating students’ interest in learning.This study applies the scaffolding teaching model to the teaching of English listening in secondary vocational schools,which reflects the "student-centered" educational concept,guides students to learn independently,and promotes the development of students’ core competencies in English subjects.This study has the following two research questions: 1.Can the scaffolding instruction from the perspective of core competencies improve the autonomous ability of secondary vocational students in English listening learning? 2.Can the scaffolding instruction based on the core competencies improve the teaching effect of English listening in secondary vocational school?This study took the students of the first-year preschool education major in a secondary vocational school in Haidong City as the research object,and carried out a14-week research through questionnaires,tests,interviews,and classroom observations.The results of the study show that the scaffolding teaching model based on the core competencies of English subjects stimulates the enthusiasm and initiative of secondary vocational students to learn English listening,and improves the teaching effect of secondary vocational English listening.
