A Report On The Translation Of Bidding Documents For Dadakhet-Rahughat Transmission Line And Associated Substations

Under the influence of the Belt and Road Initiative,China’s exchanges with the world have become more and more frequent.In the field of energy,China’s electric power construction companies are constantly seeking vast overseas markets,making important contributions to driving the development of countries along the Belt and Road and shaping China’s good overseas image.Since 2018,China and Nepal,a country along the Belt and Road,have signed a series of cooperation projects in the field of hydropower.In 2020,Nepal Electricity Authority issued the Bidding Document for Design,Supply,Installation,Testing and Commissioning of Dadakhet-Rahughat 132 k V Transmission Line and Associated Substations at Rahughat and Dadakhet.This transmission line is crucial to the development of Nepal.Therefore,the translation of this bidding document can help Chinese electric power construction enterprises to better understand the bidding projects and requirements of the Nepal Electricity Authority,and strengthen cooperation in related fields between China and Nepal and other countries along the Belt and Road.This bidding document consists of 24 chapters.The author’s task is Chapter 1-Project Specification Requirements,which is about 13,000 words.This chapter mainly includes substation equipment,contractor’s scope of work,and subsequent warranty,covering a large amount of power and construction-related knowledge and terminologies.According to the text features of source text,the author chooses Skopos theory as the guiding theory,and analyzes the three rules of Skopos theory to guide the selection of translation methods.While translating,based on the specific features of the text,this practice report adopts literal translation,addition and division to accurately convey the information of the terminologies and complex long sentences,which meets the requirements of translation purposes.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author summarizes the translation strategies of this bidding document,hoping to provide experience for the translation of similar texts.
