Idol worship is a universal social psychological phenomenon, presenting unique psychological, cultural and behavioral characteristics, and is an important part of the spiritual life of many people today, affecting the emotional and moral development of individuals in a profound way.Today, idol worship presents both positive and negative manifestations. On the one hand,it has a non-negligible developmental function and progressive significance,on the other hand,it is necessary to be alert to the occurrence of stagnation of personal development and maladaptive behavior.Idol worship is an important force in the socialization process of adolescents, therefore,an objective view of idol worship among adolescents,an examination of the effects of idol worship on social adaptation from both positive and negative functional states, and a further investigation of the role of self-concept clarity in the relationship between idol worship and social adaptation, and an in-depth understanding of the effects of idol worship on the development of self and socialization are of great value for the healthy development of adolescents and for building a harmonious social and network environment is also of great benefit. In this paper,by setting up idol worship-related questions and using research tools such as the Idol Worship Questionnaire, the Social Adaptation Assessment Questionnaire for Adolescents and the SelfConcept Clarity Scale,1741 valid questionnaires are collected to understand the basic situation of idol worship and the overall situation of social adaptation and self-concept clarity, and 1050 adolescents with current idol worship behavior are screened to explore the relationship between idol worship, social adaptation and self-concept clarity, and the mediating effect of self-concept clarity between idol worship and social adaptation is verified.Through the above status survey and relationship study, the following main conclusions are drawn.(1)Idol worship among adolescents is a common phenomenon that exists in different genders and age groups;the top three idol types among adolescents are acting stars, virtual characters, and sports stars;the reasons for adolescents’ idol worship are complex and diverse, but with certain positive orientation;the media used by adolescents for idol worship are mostly social platforms;adolescents’ idol worship behavior is mobile but remains relatively stable;the overall level of idol worship remains moderately low, among which the level of idol worship among girls is higher than that of boys, and the difference in the overall level of idol worship among different age groups is not significant.(2)Adolescent social adaptation is generally in a good state, there is no significant gender difference, but there are significant differences in positive adaptation and negative adaptation respectively. The overall selfconcept clarity of adolescents is at the medium level, and there is no significant difference in gender and academic level.(3)Idol worship has positive significance: adolescents who have or have had idols perform better in social adaptation and self-concept clarity than those who have never had idols.(4)There is significant correlation between idol worship and positive adaptation, negative adaptation and self-concept clarity.Idol worship positively predicts positive adaptation and negative adaptation, and negatively predicts self-concept clarity.Self-concept clarity positively predicts adolescents’ positive adaptation and negatively predicts adolescents’ negative adaptation.(5)Self-concept clarity plays a masking effect in the relationship between idol worship and adolescents’ positive adaptation;self-concept clarity plays a fully mediating role in the relationship between idol worship and negative adaptation.
