In order to promote the development of students’ key competences, and improve the teaching effectiveness, the New English Curriculum Standards put forward the teaching-learning-assessment alignment, which requires the integration of teaching objectives, classroom activities and assessment activities. As the basic principle of improving the effectiveness of teaching, the alignment among teaching, learning and assessment has gradually attracted people’s attention. This paper adopts qualitative research method, through classroom observation and interview methods, the author observes and analyzes the selected six high school English classrooms, takes teachers’ instructional design and classroom teaching activities as the starting point, and aims to address the following questions:(1)Are the teaching objectives in accordance with the requirements in curriculum standards?(2)How do these teachers employ the teaching activities? Are they in accordance with the teaching objectives?(3)What types of assessment task did these teachers use in these lessons? Do they contribute to the achievement of the objective? This research is based on the method of the Activity-based approach, modern curriculum theory,Bloom’s taxonomy of education objectives and behavioral objective statement.By analyzing the alignment among teaching, learning and assessment in the current English classroom teaching,it aims to find out the existing problems, and provide guiding suggestions for English teachers to improve their teaching effectiveness. The findings are as follows:(1)The teaching objectives are inconsistent with the curriculum standards, and most of them are at the level of learning and understanding, and there are few objectives designed for improving students’ transfer and innovation abilities;(2)Most of the classroom activities are consistent with the preset teaching objectives, but there are still some activities that do not reach the target level. What’s more, most lack the cultivation of students’ learning ability and thinking competence;(3)The type and method of assessment lack variety, teacher still dominates the classroom assessment, and lacks performance assessment of students.Teachers lack the assessment awareness,it is difficult for them to distinguish between classroom activities and assessment activities.Based on the major findings, the author put forward the following suggestions so as to improve the alignment among teaching, learning and assessment:(1)Teachers are supposed to design clear and specific objectives according to the curriculum standards, and take into account multiple levels;(2)Teachers are supposed to design classroom activities based on the objectives, and integrate them with assessment;(3)Teachers are supposed to diversify assessment subjects and rationally use the assessment methods to promote learning.
