| The view of English learning activities is a new concept in the General Senior High School Curriculum Standards: English(2017).It is an important guarantee for the implementation of curriculum objectives and proposes higher requirements for teachers’ teaching methods.The concept points out that students should be guided by the meaning of the text’s theme through a series of English learning activities that embody the characteristics of comprehensiveness,relevance and practicality,such as the activities of learning and understanding,the activities of applying and practicing,the activities of transferring and creating.Based on their prior knowledge and relying on various types of discourse,so that students promote their own language knowledge,language skills development,cultural and linguistic diversity in the process of analyzing and solving problems.However,in China,the phenomenon of learning language knowledge and skills primarily for the purpose of taking examinations persists in English classroom teaching,particularly in the reading classroom.A tendency for fragmented instructional design and insufficient language practice,traditional teaching principles have not yet been fundamentally altered,and students’ knowledge is generally fragmented,making it difficult for them to build integrated abilities.In addition,there are few investigations and studies on the practice of the view of English learning activities in the current high school reading teaching.In light of this,the present research is conducted through investigating the situation about view of English learning activities being practiced in senior high school.In order to investigate the practice of view of English learning activities in the current high school English reading teaching,this study took 37 English teachers from three senior high schools in Guangdong Province as the research object.This study adopts the practice questionnaire,classroom observation scale and interview outline of view of English learning activities compiled by combining the three characteristics summarized by Gao Hongde(2018)and the commentary on views of English learning activities by Mei Deming and Wang Qiang(2018).And necessary adaptation is made according to the specific teaching situation of senior high school English reading classroom.Finally,the research uses SPSS 24.0 software for statistical analysis and comparison of collected data.The main statistical analysis methods used in the research include descriptive statistics(frequency,mean,standard deviation).The research questions mainly include:1.How do high school English teachers understand the view of English learning activities?2.Is the current teaching activity design in high school English reading class consistent with the requirements of the View of English Learning Activities?3.What are the difficulties and expectations of senior high school English teachers in designing and implementing reading classes based on the view of English learning activities?The results of data analysis are listed in the following:1.Teachers have a certain understanding of the view of English learning activities,but their comprehension lacks in its depth and clarity.Most of English teachers are unable to make good connections and differentiate between its specific connotations and related concepts;teachers have a high degree of recognition of the objectives of classroom activities,teaching methods and types of activities under the view of English learning activities;most teachers can meet the design requirements of learning and understanding,application and practice,transfer and innovation activities.2.Teachers’ reading class activity design and classroom practice can not better meet the learning requirements of the view of English learning activities.The design of teachers’ reading activities partly reflects the requirements,but the consistency of the activities and requirements could be improved.From the perspective of text interpretation,most teachers focus on the interpretation of the surface information of the text,ignoring the in-depth interpretation of the text.From the perspective of teaching content,teachers pay more attention to the teaching of language knowledge and the cultivation of cultural awareness,while ignoring the cultivation of students’ thinking quality and learning ability.In addition,most teachers pay little attention to the integration of curriculum content and ignore the exploration of thematic significance.From the perspective of teaching evaluation,most teachers can comprehensively use formative evaluation and summative evaluation to evaluate students’ performance,but they don’t pay much attention to evaluating students’ performance from the perspective of English subject core competencies.From the perspective of the activities designed by teachers,the learning activities designed by teachers are mainly the activities of learning and understanding,and lack of the activities of applying and practicing and transfer and innovation activities.3.It is difficult for teachers to implement reading teaching based on the view of English learning activities.There are some difficulties in the implementation of reading teaching based on the view of English learning activities,such as teachers’ lack of theoretical knowledge related to the view of English learning activities;Teachers lack practical guidance in the view of practical English learning activities;Teachers’ teaching task is too heavy and pressure is too great;Current evaluation system;Too large class size may affect the practice of The view of English learning activities to a certain extent.In order to change this situation,teachers are suggested to examine the design of classroom activities from the perspective of view of learning activities,take students as the center,integrate curriculum content,optimize teaching methods,and design situational,hierarchical and effective English learning activities for students.At the same time,schools and education authorities should provide practical guidance to teachers on how to practice the view of English learning activities in reading teaching and strengthen the guidance of experts.Finally,the state should constantly improve the educational evaluation system to ensure the smooth implementation of the view of English learning activities. |
