This is a translation report. The source text is selected from chapters 14-19 of the novel Jane in Love published in 2020,written by Rachel Givney,an Australian writer and filmmaker. The novel is mainly about how Jane Austen, the world-famous novelist, strikes a Faustian bargain to find love and ends up time traveling to present day.The author of the source text adopts the realism writing technique which has been commonly used in Australian literary works, but the language style and diction are more inclined to English literature because the background of the source text is set in Britain. Therefore, the source text has the characteristics of multi-culture and is of great research value. This translation report focuses on the difficulties encountered during the process of translation, including the translation of culture-loaded words, the presentation of colloquial expressions and the reproduction of the style of the source text. After analyzing the source text and background, the translator gives some specific solutions for each difficulty. The translation methods of transliteration, annotation and paraphrase are adopted in translating culture-loaded words;the translation methods of amplification, omission and conversion are adopted in translating colloquial expressions;the translation methods of diction, linear translation and restructuring are adopted in reproducing the style of the source text.In addition, each translation method is supported by examples and comprehensive analyses.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to help Chinese readers appreciate the allure of Australian literature,to serve as a resource for translation learners and translators, and to improve the translator’s ability in translation practice.
