| This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is selected from chapters 20-27 of the novel Jane in Love,the first novel written by Rachel Givney who is a famous Australian writer.The novel is mainly about the magical journey of the famous novelist Jane Austen from 1803 to the 21 st century.This translation report concentrates on lexical,syntactic and discourse difficulties encountered during the translation process.For the difficulties,the translator lists specific examples and makes comprehensive analyses.The lexical difficulties contain the translation of proper nouns,culture-loaded words and adjectives,and the translation methods used are transliteration plus semantic translation,literal translation with annotation and semantic extension.Syntactical difficulties cover the translation of long sentences and colloquial expressions,and the translation methods adopted are division,restructuring and sense for sense translation.Discourse difficulties consist of the presentation of the original style and discourse coherence,and the translation methods taken are amplification,diction and repetition.The above translation difficulties and different methods selected by the translator are aimed to reproduce the original style of Jane in Love and embody the characteristic of literary works.Through this translation practice,the translator has accumulated the experience in translating novels,learned cultural knowledge about Britain and had a deeper understanding for translation methods.The translator also reflects on the limitations of the practice so as to provide reference for relevant translation practice. |
