In 2014,the Ministry of Education issued the opinions on deepening curriculum reform in an all-round way and implementing the fundamental task of moral education,which first put forward the concept of students’ core literacy and subsequently became a hot topic of research in the field of education.In 2017,the Ministry of Education issued the new "General High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)",which summarized the core literacy of English subjects into four aspects: language ability,cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability.Therefore,it is especially important for teachers to cultivate students’ English core literacy in the teaching of high school English reading class.However,the current domestic research on the core literacy of English is mainly focused on theoretical research and speculative research,and there are relatively few empirical studies on the cultivation of core literacy.Therefore,the author studied on relevant literature about English core literacy,English reading teaching and the English curriculum standards for senior high schools(2017 edition),and applied constructivism theory,the humanistic educational theory and the view of English learning activities to research 266 students and 8 English teachers in the second grade of senior high school in Jilin City on the front line by using the method of questionnaire and interview.The specific research questions are:1.In high school English reading teaching,what is the status quo of the cultivation of the four English core qualities of students: language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability?2.What are the reasons for the problems in the cultivation of English core literacy in the current high school English reading teaching?3.What effective countermeasures should be taken to address the problems in the cultivation of core English literacy?The research results show that there are certain problems in high school English reading teaching from the perspective of the cultivation of core literacy at this school.The students,teachers and the school are responsible for these problems..And the author puts forward suggestions for reference from these aspects.This paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction.The author mainly introduces the research background,research questions,research purpose and significance of this research.The second chapter is a literature review related to this research.In the literature review part,the author interprets the concepts of core literacy and English core literacy,and summarizes the current research status of foreign language core literacy at home and abroad,the current research status of English reading teaching at home and abroad,and the current research status of high school English reading teaching from the perspective of domestic core literacy and the theoretical basis of core literacy training in English reading teaching.The third chapter is the introduction of research design.The author mainly introduces the research questions,research objects,research methods and research process of this research.The author mainly uses a combination of questionnaire method and interview method to conduct investigation and research.The fourth chapter is the analysis of the research results.Through the collection,sorting and analysis of the results of the questionnaire and the interview,the author found some problems in the high school English reading teaching from the perspective of the cultivation of core literacy at this school: Some teachers focus more on the cultivation of students’ language ability than the cultivation of cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.The fifth chapter is the introduction of research conclusions and countermeasures.Through the analysis of the questionnaire survey results and interview results,the author also found that the reasons for the above problems mainly exist in three aspects: students,teachers and schools.The reasons for students mainly focus on learning concepts,learning foundations,and learning methods;The reasons for teachers mainly focus on teaching concepts,teaching goals,teaching content,teaching methods,teaching processes,evaluation methods and literacy levels;The reasons for schools mainly focus on the training concept,training content and training methods.In response to the above reasons for the poor status of the cultivation of core English literacy,the author makes some suggestions from these aspects: Students should change their learning concepts,consolidate their learning foundation,and adopt active learning methods;Teachers should update their teaching concepts,design core literacy-oriented teaching goals,enrich teaching content,innovate teaching methods,implement the teaching process of English learning activities,innovate diversified teaching evaluation methods,and improve their own literacy levels;Schools must change training concepts,enrich training content,and innovate diversified training methods.Besides,the limitations and future prospects of this research are also stated.
