The development of China's new rural cooperative medical insurance(NCMS)has a history of 20 years, which has a direct impact on the health and medical expenses of rural residents. The relationship between the left behind elderly and their children in rural areas is tense or even worse because of migrant work. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the impact of the new rural cooperative medical system on the relationship between the elderly and their children in rural areas by using the tracking survey data of China's health and pension.Based on the questionnaire results of China Health and pension tracking survey(Charls)in 2015 and 2018,this paper analyzes the subjective variables(the score of rural middle-aged people's satisfaction with their children)and objective variables(including the time of meeting and living together with their children, and the frequency of communication and meeting with their children who are not living together))It is the explained variable.Whether the rural middle-aged and old people participate in the new rural cooperative medical system is the explanatory variable. The control variables include gender, age, education level, working status, marital status, number of children, number of grandchildren and region.According to the national samples and the eastern, central and Western sub samples, this paper makes an empirical study on whether the participation of rural middle-aged and elderly people in the new rural cooperative medical system has an impact on the relationship between themselves and their children. The results show that: compared with the middle-aged and old people who did not participate in the new rural cooperative medical system, the satisfaction of the rural middle-aged and old people who participated in the new rural cooperative medical system to their children's relationship has been improved;the frequency of communication with the children who did not live together also increased significantly, but the frequency of meeting did not change significantly;the cohabitation time of the children who lived together decreased significantly. In the endogenous discussion, through the psm-did regression of panel data,it is found that the improvement effect of NCMS on children's satisfaction and communication frequency is still significant. The sub sample regression shows that: in terms of the improvement of children's satisfaction, the satisfaction of rural middle-aged and elderly people with new rural cooperative medical insurance in the eastern region is significantly greater than that in the central and western regions, especially in the western region. The reason may be that the implementation of new rural cooperative medical insurance in the eastern region is longer, the intensity is greater, and the mechanism is more perfect There is no effect. In the eastern and central regions, the communication frequency of the elderly and their children is also significantly improved;in terms of the influence of cohabitation time, the eastern and western regions have more obvious influence. However, the frequency of meeting was not significant in the three regions. In the mediating effect regression test, wealth effect has almost no mediating effect on the improvement of the relationship between the elderly and their children in rural areas, while health effect has a certain mediating effect on the improvement of the relationship between the elderly and their children in rural areas. However, the proportion of health effect in the total effect is generally not high,so the mechanism of the improvement of the relationship between the elderly and their children needs further study.Based on the empirical results, this paper argues that in order to give full play to the new rural cooperative medical system to improve the relationship between the elderly and their children in rural areas, first of all,as the government and medical service providers,we should continue to improve the payment level and subsidy level of the new rural cooperative medical system in the central and western regions, strengthen the publicity and guidance of the new rural cooperative medical system for farmers in the central and western regions, and strengthen the health education for farmers,To cultivate farmers' risk awareness and implement the new agricultural cooperation as a measure of poverty alleviation;Secondly,it is necessary to strengthen the promotion of the new rural cooperative medical system for the most benefit groups,so as to give play to the greater marginal benefits of the new rural cooperative medical system.
