With the comprehensive promotion of China’s "dual carbon" goals, which stands for Environmental,Social, and Governance, has been increasingly valued by the government and the market in recent years. The importance of ESG is continuously highlighted in the perf ormance evaluation system of enterprises.China has now become the world’s second-largest economy, and the economy is shifting towards a more efficient and greener direction.General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized on multiple occasions that we should always adhere to the development path of ecological priority and green and low-carbon development, which shows the importance of green and low-carbon development to Chinese companies and the market.Since the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party o f China,a series of relevant policy documents have been formulated by the Party and the government to address issues of green and sustainable development. As a pillar industry in China’s national economy, the chemical industry plays an important role. How ever, due to the high pollution and high-risk nature of the industry, its impact on the environment is also very significant.Currently, there are problems of structural imbalance, large emissions, and high energy consumption in China’s chemical industry. If chemical companies do not implement ESG policies or incorporate them into their performance evaluation system, this will not only hinder the country’s progress towards sustainable development goals but also directly affect human health and living enviro nment. Therefore,we urgently need to promote the comprehensive green transformation of the chemical industry. This study employs a combined method of literature research and empirical testing to explore the performance evaluation of chemical enterprises in China.Starting with the relevant concepts and theoretical foundations of ESG and performance evaluation, and based on a thorough analysis of the characteristics of chemical enterprises and the current state of their performance evaluation,we construct a set of performance evaluation system for chemical enterprises in China from an ESG perspective. We use the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Comprehensive Analysis Method for comprehensive evaluation analysis. The research results show that: First,by applying the performance evaluation system that incorporates ESG,the overall performance of chemical enterpri ses in China is relatively high, and the development trend of the enterprises is positive.Second,it is necessary and feasible for chemical enterprises in China to introduce ESG into their performance evaluation. The main innovations of this paper are:(1)innovative research perspective.Based on the ESG perspective, this paper constructs a new performance evaluation indicator system, which breaks free from the constraints of focusing only on financial indicators. The indicator system is no longer limited to basic financial indicators, but expanded to multiple areas such as environment, social, and corporate governance indicators.Starting from the ESG perspective, the performance evaluation of China’s chemical industry tends to be more rational and comple te.(2)Innovative research methods. This paper adopts a combination of subjective and objective methods, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process to determine the weight of evaluation indicators and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method to comprehensively eva luate the performance of China’s chemical industry.Starting from the ESG perspective, this paper provides a new performance evaluation concept for enterprises and ensures the scientific rationality of the evaluation results.
