| In recent decades,in order to promote economic development,human beings have abused fossil fuels,resulting in global warming.However,China is the country with the largest carbon emissions in the world and must assume the responsibility of a big country.Therefore,China has put forward the "double carbon" goal,that is,to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutralization by 2060.As a new driving force for China’s economic development,whether digital economy can effectively enable the realization of the "double carbon" goal,and whether it can play a positive role in reducing carbon emissions through green technology innovation,is studied in this paper.This paper first defines the concepts of digital economy,green technology innovation and carbon emissions theoretically,summarizes and sorts out the basic theories related to the three,and puts forward the direct impact mechanism of digital economy development on carbon emissions and the indirect impact mechanism through green technology innovation;Then measure and analyze the development of digital economy,green technology innovation and the total amount and intensity of carbon emissions;Finally,this paper conducts an empirical study on the direct impact of digital economy on carbon emissions and the indirect impact of digital economy development on carbon emissions through green technology innovation,and draws the corresponding conclusions.Through the above research,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)China’s digital economy is generally on the rise year by year,with the fastest development of digital infrastructure.The overall level of green technology innovation in China shows an upward trend,especially in the eastern region,the overall level of green technology innovation is far higher than the national average;Among different types of green technology innovation,energy saving green technology innovation and waste disposal green technology innovation have the fastest growth rate.With regard to carbon emissions,China’s total carbon emissions show an upward trend,but the intensity of carbon emissions,on the contrary,shows a downward trend,indicating that China’s economic development has gradually reduced its dependence on total carbon emissions.(2)The development of China’s digital economy can promote the reduction of carbon emission intensity,and the improvement of economic development level,the rationalization of industrial structure,and the improvement of foreign investment level can also promote the reduction of carbon emission intensity.The optimization of energy structure,that is,the increase of coal consumption in the proportion of total energy consumption,makes carbon emissions rise,and the above conclusions are still valid after the robustness test.At the same time,through the heterogeneity test,it is found that the development of digital economy in the eastern,central,western and northeast regions of China has reduced the carbon emission intensity,and the development of digital economy in the northeast region has the greatest impact on the carbon emission intensity.(3)The total amount of green technology innovation has intermediary effect in the impact of digital economy development on carbon emission intensity,and the intermediary effect accounts for 32.16% of the total effect.In the intermediary effect test of different types of green technology innovation,the development of digital economy can promote four types of green technology innovation,namely waste disposal,energy conservation,alternative energy and administrative management and design,and these four types of green technology innovation can promote the reduction of carbon emission intensity,among which the intermediary effect of administrative management and design type green technology innovation accounts for the largest proportion.This paper has the following three innovations:(1)It studies the mechanism of the impact of regional digital economy development on carbon emissions,and empirically tests the extent of the impact of digital economy development on carbon emissions intensity,making up for the lack of research on related topics in the academic community.(2)The vertical and horizontal split grade method is used to measure the development level of digital economy,which improves the disadvantage that the evaluation method such as entropy method cannot be dynamically evaluated.(3)The discussion on the intermediary effect of different types of green technology innovation in the development of digital economy on carbon emission intensity was added,which enriched the mechanism of green technology innovation in the impact of digital economy development on carbon emission. |
