Optimization Of Multi-lateral Horizontal Wells Based On Risk And Benefit

In recent years,multi-lateral horizontal well has been widely applied to CBM development.Compared with vertical well,it is beneficial to obtain higher economic benefits,but also faces higher engineering risks.Further,the risk-benefit profile varies from different multi-lateral horizontal well types.If only income is taken as the index of well type selection,the overall risk could be even higher.Therefore,a comparative study of risks and benefits can effectively prevent the investment risks of CBM multibranch horizontal wells.This paper takes the middle and low order CBM block in the eastern margin of Ordos Basin as the research object,from a technical point of view,based on financial analysis methods,specifically using the finance net present value and payback period method,combining with the risk assessment results from both production process analysis and expert investigation analysis method,comprehensively evaluates the single well economic benefit and risk of different multi-lateral horizontal well types.By comparing the data,this paper draws the following conclusion: Single wellbore multilateral horizontal well(all screen)is more adaptable to formation,gets the highest profit and faces the lower risk value during the evaluation period,so it should be considered as a priority well type.The risk values of dual wellbore multi-lateral horizontal well(main screen)and dual wellbore multi-lateral horizontal well(open hole)are not much different,but the benefit of the former type is 50% higher than the latter type,so dual wellbore multi-lateral horizontal well(main screen)can be selected as an alternative well type.As the middle and low rank coal reservoirs are widely distributed in China,this study has a wide application space,and it is of great significance to improve the economic benefit of CBM development projects.
